The history of Château Fontesteau goes back centuries, with the construction of the castle dating back to the 13th century. The salamander engraved on the pediment of the keep’s door may even be a testimony to Francis I of France having been there. Closer to our time, in 1984, Dominique Fouin settled there as a winemaker. He cultivates 20 hectares of vines on the diverse terroirs of the Saint-Sauveur and Cissac-Médoc communes to produce the Château’s great red wines. Thanks to the diversity of soils, he has been able to plant several grape varieties (mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) on ideally suited terroirs where they best express their potential. In 1997, the Immelnkemper family (of the Bernard-Massard group) acquired the building and joined forces with Dominique Fouin. Together, they made the wines known throughout Europe.
